If your child is old enough to attend school then apart from getting your child admitted in the best school it is the parent's duty to help the child develop that learning skills. Helping your child develop learning skills can make it easier for them, to grasp things when they are at school.

Here are the 7 ways in which we can help our preschoolers develop those learning skills.

Build foundational skills -
Start with the foundational skills like learning how to identify numbers, letters and colors. When you are teaching them how to identify letters also make them learn the sound of each letter. Relate all the letters with some object so that it is easy for your kid to identify the letter.

Arouse their curiosity -
Curiosity is natural to children. As parents, we are consistently being bombarded with questions from our kids. Many times, we can use science activities to enlighten and help our kids find the answers. Children at this age may be still too young to do complex experiments. Instead, we can teach them to observe and question things around them. Being able to observe and ask question are also skills your child can take it along with him for years to come.

Sing and Rhyme with them -
Sing to the child often. Listening to music stimulate the auditory sense of preschoolers. Buy some CD math songs or nursery rhymes. Play those CDs at home or while traveling on the road.

Read to your child -
All parents should read to their children. Kids’ literacy is a vital skill to master, as it is an important source of knowledge and pleasure that can last a lifetime.
Read out or make up stories from some colorful books. This will increase their interest in knowing more and reading on their own.

Get them to color -
Coloring is one way to help kids to develop their motor skills. The grasping of crayons and color pencils will help your preschoolers in holding a pencil properly for writing and drawing. You can always download some free printables from the internet and let your child work on it.

Guide them on doing craft work -
Studies have shown that kids crafts helps to boost a child's self-confidence, increase problem-solving skills, concentration span and hand eye coordination. Do some simple craft work during family time.

Playtime -
It is crucial to set some playtime for preschoolers on a daily basis. Play is work to children. Children develop and learn many skills through play. Let the children have free play among them. If you play with your child, do let your kid takes the lead. However, the caveat is that it should not be playing PC/Video games. PC/Video games should be kept to a minimum.

When your kid goes to school he/she is expected to know the basics so, make short games and indulge in fun activities with your children so that learning becomes easy for them. We also should not force children into learning something when they are not in a mood. Give them time and let them enjoy what they are doing. Be patient and let them learn new things gradually.

I have personally done all the above when my kids are preschoolers. I hope other parents find these tips useful.
